Voluntary Seatpost Bolt Recall Notice

December 2007

Effective immediately, Dahon is issuing a voluntary recall notice to all owners regarding a potential safety issue with seatpost bolts affecting all 2007 model year Dahon MATRIX, JACK, ESPRESSO, CADENZA, TOURNADO, and SMOOTH HOUND bicycles. It has been determined that the seatpost bolt on some full-size models of Dahon bicycles can break under use and may pose a potential hazard.

See PDF for more information.

Models Included: 2007 model year Dahon Matrix, Jack, Espresso, Cadenza, Tournado and Smooth Hound bicycles featuring bolt-on seatposts labeled “BioLogic™ PostPump”, with 27.2 mm diameter.

Reason for Recall: Steel material for bolt does not meet specified strength requirements and may fail under use.

Background: The issue appears to only affect seatpost bolts used on certain batches of bicycles. However, because the seatpost manufacturer has not isolated the affected bolts to specific batches, all seatpost bolts on all models will be replaced.

Replacement Procedure:

  1. All worldwide Dahon distributors will receive replacement seatpost bolts and provide them to dealers upon request. Specific details will vary by country.
  2. Consumers should contact their original dealer if possible, or another local Dahon dealer for a free replacement bolt. Dealers should contact their local distributor for further information.
  3. The bolts may be replaced by consumers or dealers according to the attached instructions.

Instructions:
Please refer to the attached instructions.

Please Note: Before replacing the bolt, grease the bolt. Replacement Bolts should be tightened firmly to a maximum of 180 Kgf-cm or 18 N-m. [Normal hand-force with a standard spanner/wrench is in the range of 130~150 kgf-cm or 13~15 N-m.]

For further assistance and clarification of these procedures, consumers should seek advice from their local retailer, retailers should obtain direction from their local distributor. If further questions remain, please contact Dahon directly via e-mail to contact@dahon.com.
