DUARTE, California January 2003 A good folding bike needs to be light. Period. After all, what use is a folding bike if it's too heavy to carry? That's why we've pulled out all the stops in 2003 to lighten our bikes. Through a combination of new materials, structural re-design, new manufacturing processes, and a variety of custom-designed components we've managed to significantly reduce the weight of each and every bike in our line up. High end bikes like the Helios get a new frame fabricated from proprietary Puro U6 aluminum alloy that is 25% stronger than traditional aluminum alloys. And every steel frame in our program has been upgraded to SuperLite 4130 chromoly. The end result of all of this hard work is a line-up of deliciously light folding bikes that will make carrying your bike a lot easier.
Riding is Believing!
With few exceptions, compact folding bicycles have never measured
up to the comfort and ride standards of traditional full-size bikes.
We've long felt that this didn't have to be the case so two years
ago we started a project to find the optimal frame geometry for small-wheeled
bicycle frames. Our goal was to build a folding bicycle that was as
efficient, stable, and comfortable as a high-end full-size bicycle.
We rigorously analyzed head and seat tube angles, wheelbase, fork
offset, trail, frame rigidity, weight distribution and all of the
other factors that affect the ride. The result: our new BioLogic
frame geometry. You'll find BioLogic
geometry on every one of our 2003 compact bikes. Hop aboard one
of our new bikes and tell us if it isn't the most comfortable and
best handling folding bike you've ever ridden.
It's Our 20th Anniversary
2003 is the 20th anniversary of the very first Dahon folding bicycle
rolling off our production line. In commemoration, we've introduced
the Helios XX, the most advanced folding bicycle we've ever produced.
Each bike is hand-painted, hand-built, and individually numbered.
Only 300 will be produced worldwide.
