I've checked all the bike shops and on line auctions
I did however find a place that has adapters that convert the pedal from 9/16" to 1/2"
They are very expensive and make the pedals stick out about 20mm ( a little less than an inch)
Anyway if you ever hear or see any folding pedals that are 1/2" please tell me.
Thanks very much,
Phil

Getting Rid Of The Seatpost Creak

After a couple of months of riding (and enjoying) my Mu Uno, I've narrowed down most of the noise that it makes to the seatpost. Has anyone found the magic bullet to get ride of seatpost creak but not have to post slip down? I can get rid of the noise with a small application of GT85, but no matter how tight the seatpost QR is, the post will creep down slowly (just enought to notice after a couple of miles.) But if I clean off the post, it creaks like crazy. Is there a happy middle ground?

I ride with the post almost all the way out (at the 2 1/2 mark) and am wondering whether a longer post that leaves more in the frame may somehow help.

thanks for any input.

I recently turned my Dahon D7 Boardwalk (purchased late August 2009) upside down, in order to clean it and I found out that a joint in the front fork (where the brake system joints with the fork) seems that hasn't been soldered well (take a look at the attached photos). The opposite joint seems to be OK, lacking this "hole" in the joint.

Is this normal or should I be worried about it? I am afraid that there may be a problem after a while, with the part going apart the rest of the fork. Should I ask for a repair/replacement while this is under warranty?

The problem is that the shop of the purchase is rather far away, so is the local distributor.
I tried to find an email for contacting Dahon Support/Service, in order to get an official reply to my question before contacting the locals, but I couldn't locate any...

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Latch Tension

To Dahon Tech:

The Dahon manual states that the Dahon V-clamp hinge should be tightened so that "the hinge opens and closes with the correct amount of force which is 39~88 N for aluminum frames". (Owner's Manual, page 19-21). I assume that the manual means "Nm", and if so is this correct? Should it instead be 39-88 in/lbs? It seems that 39-88 Nm is a lot of force.

The same question applies to the handlepost hinge where the manual states "Adjust the latch bolt until the latch opens and closes with 29~49 N of force." (Owner's Manual, page 16).

Assuming that is correct, is that approximately the same force as is used to tighten QR levers?

Thanks.

--william

Edit: Assuming that the units are incorrect then 39-88 in/lbs = 4.4-9.9 Nm and 29-49 in/bls = 3.3-5.5 Nm. These seem more reasonable -- possible typo in the Owner's Manual?

Wheel Truing Tolerance

I've just had two broken spokes replaced on the rear wheel for my '05 Speed Pro at my Local Bike Shop and I could use some input please as to how true I should expect the wheel to run...

There was no obvious damage to the rim before the repair, just two vaguely opposite spokes had broken just inside the nipple.

The repaired wheel now runs very straight across the rim, but has a noticeable bulge of maybe 2mm when viewed side-on using the brake blocks as a reference point. I haven't yet replaced the tire and ridden the bike but I'm concerned there would be significant vibration at speed, and I can't imagine it will roll all that efficiently!

Is this as good as I can expect, or should it be possible to get the wheel closer to truly round?

Also, the bike shop was unable to source matching replacement spokes so has used "regular" ones (and painted them black so they don't stand out...!!) - Is this OK or would you expect them perhaps not to last long?

Many thanks for any advice...

Chris.

Shipping Issues

A few weeks ago my first new folder arrived, a 2008 Speed P8, sent in its Dahon box via FedEx from a southern California dealer. The hardware on the frame hatch was squashed, and I could see where the side of the box had been pushed in. It required a week for a replacement to be sent. Yesterday my second new Dahon arrived, a 2008 Mu P24, and the local dealer I am using to check the bike over phoned to say that the shift rod for the internally geared hub was bent 90 degrees. I can see the advantages of using a local dealer to verify and address such problems. I'm having a wonderful time riding the Speed, although I think it should have the gearing of the P24 (thus my second purchase), but I think Dahon needs to attend to packaging. A rule that I've come to formulate to explain such issues: many companies don't seem to evaluate their procedures in terms of what the customer encounters, from placing orders to receiving the goods, and to getting support as needed. The Chinese manufacturers don't put a lateral piece of a durable material from one side to the other in their boxes. With current practice, the bike itself has to supply what's needed. And the box doesn't have printed on the outside, "this end up," or whatever. I noticed too that no protective material was placed around the handlebar at the point where in shipment it sits upon the folded seatpost, so that rub or scratch marks are left underneath the handlebar--not that that alone is terribly bothersome; it's just a sign of packaging that hasn't been tested and evaluated as well as it should be.

I'd don't see the problem as unsolvable or as the fault of the dealer selling via the Internet. Dahon just needs to attend to how its Chinese manufactures box their products up. Now I have to wait at least a week more to ride the Mu P24, but, of course, I have the delightful Speed in the meanwhile, which presumably I will not be able to justify keeping once the P24 is operational. Thus regretfully I shall have to condemn it craigslist. Anyway, to those getting their Dahons shipped to them, a word of warning.

Terry

Magura Hs33 And Magura Hs33 Firm-tech

Since I've been having plenty of braking issues and since replacing stock parts with upgrades is fun and supportive of the economy , I would like to ask:

1)Will the Magura HS33 Firm-tech brake will fit my 2008 Speed P8?

Their website states: "FIRM-tech is a featherlight high-tech package consisting of a slimline HS 33 rim brake fully integrated into a state-of-art MAGURA suspension fork"

My guess is, that means it doesn't? It mentions that it requires no boosters, or adapters, which sounds quite sexy.

2) If it doesn't, is the installation of the "regular" HS33 really as easy as the instructions seem to suggest? At least for someone who is mildly technically gifted?

3) Finally, most websites selling these brake state the following: "Includes: 1350mm-front and/or 1350mm-rear pre-bled (cut-to-fit) tubing" I haven't measured the existing cables, but won't they be too long for my Dahon? Does cut to fit in this case mean you can cut it to fit it, or does it mean, it is cut already, to fit xyz?

Any input, greatly appreciated.
