Dahon Mini Hub

Hub

People often ask us why we use custom narrow 74 mm front hubs. It’s non-standard so it’s more difficult to upgrade and replace, they say. Yes, we concede, but a narrow hub builds up into a stronger wheel when using 16” or 20” rims. See 100 mm hubs were designed for optimal bracing angles when using 26” and 700c rims. But when used with smaller rims, those bracing angles are too small and no longer optimal, resulting in weaker wheels. And we don’t like weaker wheels. We like strong wheels, even if it comes at the cost of a bit of ugrade inconvenience. And optimal bracing angles mean we can use fewer spokes, which results in a bit of reduced weight. And, as a final additional benefit, our narrow Mini hubs reduce the overall folded package size.
