Dahon Dispatch Blog: January 2009

Message from Dr. Hon

It was an exciting year for Dahon in 2008 in terms of growth and though we expect 2009 to be just as promising, many challenges lie ahead of us. In 2009, Dahon will continue to push forward with its corporate mission to promote green mobility. Put simply, we’re going to work hard to get more butts on bikes.

The year 2009 is shaping up to be a challenging year for us and our partners. Industries around the world are feeling the effects of economic turmoil, but we are encouraged because bicycling is bucking the trend as more people turn to cycling as a means of transportation.

Hot Product: Mu Uno

The Mu Uno. It’s sleek, it’s black, and it has only one speed. New in Dahon’s product lineup for 2009 is the Mu Uno, a single-speed, coaster brake bike based on the very popular Dahon Mu frame.

“The original concept for the Uno was suggested by a dealer in Holland,” says Joshua Hon, Dahon vice president. “They came to us saying that people wanted a simple, all-purpose commuting bike. There wasn’t much interest from customers when they saw the first prototype, but when we used a Mu frame, it started to turn heads and people started placing orders.”

My Red Bike

Kent Peterson

ONE DAY, Kent Peterson bought a red Dahon Curve and he has been waxing poetic about it ever since.

I ride my red bike here and there,
I ride my red bike everywhere.

I take my red bike on a bus,
On the street folks question us.

"How fast does that red bike go?"
"As fast as I pedal, don't you know."

"Does it have the gears you need?"
"I've found three give needed speed.

"One for up and one for down,
One for riding in the town."

"Can you ride it in the night?"
"Yes, I have a little light."

"Do you ride it near and far?"
"Yes, every place you'd take a car."

"Can you take things on your bike?"
"A rack and sack hold all I like."

"My bike goes with me on the train,
I ride in sun, I ride in rain."

"I ride to the store and to the bank,
I never put gas in a tank."

"I fuel at the grocery store,
I ride and eat then ride some more."

"I have a red bike that I like,
I'm glad I have this folding bike."
