Dahon Participating in Velo-city

Dahon is participating in Velo-city 2009, the largest international conference dedicated to integrating cycling into public transportation policy. Dahon founder and CEO, Dr. David Hon, will speak at the conference and the company will offer a special edition bicycle in partnership with the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF).

On Thursday, May 14, Dr. Hon will speak on the subject of intermodal mobility at the conference, which runs from May 12-15 in Brussels. In his speech, Dr. Hon will examine the current and future role of folding and portable bicycles. ”In the last 25 years we have seen first-hand the varied ways that portable bikes can contribute to a greener and better way of life,” stated Dr. Hon. “City governments and transport authorities have eased regulations and opened new opportunities for commuters to use bikes as an intermodal means of personal mobility. These are very promising first steps into an even more widespread rethinking of transportation in the next few years.”

Dr. Hon will describe the role that folding bikes can play in the future of urban infrastructure and how Dahon’s vision of urban mobility can contribute to a new world of personal mobility, highlighting examples of folding and electric bikes and other light electric vehicles, as well as recent developments for bike rental schemes around the world.

Velocity special edition Dahon folding bikeDahon is supporting Velo-city by providing a fleet of 200 special-edition folding bicycles. Conference participants will be able to test ride the bikes on site and purchase them at a special promotional price. Dahon will donate a portion of the profits from the sales to Velo-city and the ECF.

Velo-city is generally considered to be the largest conference devoted to cycling in the world. Cycling is a good, healthy, quick and environmentally-friendly means of transport and the meetings being held during the conference will promote cycling as both a fun and functional means of getting around. Velo-city is jointly organized by the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) and the city hosting the conference and has been held every other year since 1980.
