Dahon and Kukuxumusu Launch Limited Edition Bike at Taipei Show

Dahon unveiled a limited edition bicycle created in partnership with Kukuxumusu, a world-renowned Spanish “design factory” at the Taipei International Cycle Show, which ran from March 17-20, 2009. The bike is based on a Dahon Curve that can be folded in less than 15 seconds. The bike will be displayed in Kukuxumusu shops throughout Spain and will be available in cosmopolitan bike shops around the world.

“I’ve been a big fan of Kukuxumusu’s style and humor for several years now and thought it would be really fun to work with them on a limited edition bike,” stated Joshua Hon, Dahon vice president. “We spend most of our days focused on the functionality and utility of our products – but sometimes, it’s great to break out and just make something that looks really cool.”

Kukuxumusu, which means “the kiss of the flea” in the Basque language, is best known for its expressive and irreverent designs, especially those of the running of the bulls of San Fermin. The company’s designs can be found on T-shirts, and a select range of consumer products around the world.

“For Kukuxumusu it was a challenge to take up a project such as this one,” stated Koldo Aiestaran, co-founder and general manager of Kukuxumusu. “This is the first time we have put our drawings on a bicycle. We had a big motivation to do it on a fun product that is aesthetically pretty and something that is popular with people everywhere. I believe the result has left everyone more than satisfied.”

Aiestaran stated that sheep have a special meaning for Kukuxumusu. “At Kukuxumusu, sometimes, it rains sheep, just like in the drawings for the Dahon bike. No, seriously, the sheep is one of our favorite characters and we felt it would fit perfectly on the product support and with the philosophy of the project. Let’s see what will rain the next time round.”

Dahon will produce 1,000 sets of the limited edition bicycle and will ship to distributors worldwide in June. The special bike will be available in: Spain, the United States, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Kukuxumusu is pronounced koo-koo-shoo-moo-shoo. Dahon is pronounced dah-hawn.
